We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world – just being here means at least half the job of entertaining the children is done already. And one of our favourite places to go is Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, just a couple of miles past Lyndhurst.
With miles of paths to wander along (many gravel lined so suitable for pushchairs, for those like us with tiny ones to consider), and plenty to explore off the beaten path, too, it’s an easy place to while away a few hours. There’s an arboretum, guided trails including the Tall Trees (and the Giant Redwoods really are tall) and Sensory Trails, not to mention easy parking, loos (in Blackwater car park), picnic benches and often an ice cream van or two.
The perfect place for many happy hours splashing in puddles and streams, hiding behind trees and under bridges, searching for Gruffalos, fairies or wildlife and, of course, that essential outdoor activity of finding sticks bigger than you.
The Forestry Commission website has all the essential information, including detailed directions.
Where’s your favourite place to visit in and around the New Forest? We’d love to hear about it and feature it in a future blog post.
